25km is a site-specific project inspired by the city of Eleusis. Thousands of years ago, this very place marked the final destination of the Eleusinian Mysteries, celebrated in honor of the goddesses Demeter and Persephone. Among the most prestigious religious ceremonies of Ancient Greece, the Mysteries centered not on the gods, but on the human experience. A central part of the ritual was the Procession, where initiates walked the Sacred Way from Athens to Eleusis in search of transformation, a journey toward a life enriched with meaning and free from fear.
In 25km, four women retrace those ancient steps, walking in silence for 25 kilometers in search of new personal and collective meaning. The project centers on the profound experience of the journey itself, a long walk that becomes a space for reflection, connection, and ritual. It unfolds through three connected creative expressions: a documentary, a visual map, and a site-specific dance performance.
The anticipation of departure, fleeting moments of connection with nature, and the need to purify both body and soul reflect the project’s artistic research and form the foundation of 25km’s contemporary, collective ritual.
25km was realized in the framework of 2023 ELEVSIS European Capital of Culture and U(R)TOPIAS Academy of Choreography, and was supported by Cultural and Development Non Profit Organization NEON and Organization for Culture, Sports & the Youth of the City of Athens (OPANDA).
